Katherine Von Drachenburg, or as we know her Kat Von D, is an American tattoo artist and launched her amazing Kat Von D cosmetic line in 2008. Kat Von D products are renowned for their full coverage and high definition products and I wanted to test and try these products out for you and give you guys a look to create for fall!
Before any creating any look and applying makeup products, it is vital to prime the skin, so I went in using the Kat Von D lock it hydrating face primer. I love this primer as I naturally have very dry skin and this primer is suitable for dry, sensitive to normal skin types. The formula is water-based and includes hydrating ingredients, including vitamin B5, aloe vera, jojoba, and shea to ensure that the skin is nourished. This primer features skin-smoothing oxygen-boosters to help long-wear foundations glide evenly onto skin for a soft, poreless finish. I applied this primer with a flat foundation brush, due to its milky texture and tacky feel and left to settle for 5 minutes before applying the Kat Von D Lock it foundation. However, the foundation is quite dense in weight so I would suggest mixing the foundation and primer together and apply onto the face to create a dewy, lightweight flawless finish. What’s more is that this primer is cruelty-free, does not contain any mineral oil, fragrance, colouring or parabens, allowing the primer to be gentle on the skin.
To concealer my eyebrows and under eye area I take the Kat Von D lock it cream concealer in D33 warm, which is for medium to dark skin tones with a golden undertone. This concealer is also loaded with complexion-brightening pigments and ultra-nourishing Hydra-Boost Complex™, this formula is crease-proof and hydrating. This is perfect for a sensitive under eye area, giving you full coverage with no creases. This concealer is also 24-hour wear, with lasting long wear with a matte finish. I loved using this concealer as it is full coverage but is still blendable and easy to work. You can take your time with this concealer as it does not dry fast and is buildable. Due to its easy to use applicator I just applied under and over my brow line, highlighting and covering up my grown brow hairs. Application of the concealer is easy to use due to the applicator being modelled after an artist’s paintbrush, with a tapered tip for precise corners and a wide base to efficiently coat larger areas. What’s great about this concealer is that is it cruelty-free and contains no alcohol, mineral oil, parabens and is suitable for all skin types.
For foundation, I took the Kat Von D lock it foundation in Deep 71 warm, which is for medium to dark skin tones with a golden undertone and is a perfect shade match for me. The foundation comes in a range of skin shades and undertones, catering for up to 30 shades and all skin types. This foundation gives you up to 24 hours of full coverage, waterproof, fade-proof and transfer-resistant, leaving your face with a flawless matte finish. Due to its matte finish, the appearance of pores and imperfections are minimised and skin tone and hyperpigmentation are evened out. For the application, I took 1 1/2 pumps of this foundation and initially applied with a stippled foundation brush at first and finished off with a large beauty blender. Due to this foundation being thick in texture and being full coverage, when applying with a brush I was getting a cakey shiny finish rather than a matte finish. As this foundation has a thick texture in comparison to my other foundations, I would suggest applying with a beauty blender and working the foundation into the face to ensure that the foundation is being distributed evenly across my face. I personally found this foundation to be rich in colour and rich in pigmentation. I wore this foundation all day, attending work and events and can testify to how long-wearing the makeup looked. I did not even have to top up or retouch my makeup, with no crease lines. I love the foundation packaging as it emphasises the lock it theme, the pump applicator also has a tight seal, ensuring that the foundation will be locked away with no spillages. This foundation is suitable for vegans, cruelty-free and does not contain alcohol, mineral oil, parabens, phthalate, sulphates.
For my eyes, I took the shade and light eyeshadow palette. This palette is huge with smaller quad palette inside to create different dramatic looks. The first quad palette is a neutral palette, which aids in defining your eyes. The second quad palette is a cool quad, which aids in lifting your eyes. The third quad is a warm quad palette that aids in balancing your eyes. I chose to use the third quad palette to warm up my eyes. I used the base colour Ludwin and placed all over my eyelid. Then placing the highlight colour in Latinus and blending in with a crease brush. To further define my eyes, I took the defining shade in Sytry and added the shadow at the end of my eye and blended that in. What I love about the palette is a guide is included which gives its makeup junkies and first time Kat Von D makeup newbies, advise on how to apply this palette with a contour leaflet.
To finish off my fall look, I needed a bold lip, and Kat Von D is not shy with their lip colour choices. To line my lips I chose their Everlasting lip liner in Blood milk, which is a deep burgundy colour. As I have quite full lips naturally, I hardly use lip liner but this liner went into my lips so effortlessly with such ease. The proof is in its name, ‘everlasting’ as this lip liner is long wearing with coverage of 24 hours, this liner won’t budge or smudge. Even after eating, my liner stayed perfectly in place!
The liner goes perfectly with Kat Von D’s studded kiss lipstick in Homegirl, which is also a deep burgundy shade for a vampy bold lip. What I love is that the studded kiss lipstick range is a cream lipstick, and I often suffer from dry lips so I am glad that this lipstick is long lasting but still nourishing. This lipstick is so bold and was a little strange for me at first but after a while, I ended up loving this look. This Lipstick features a high-chroma content for pure, vivid colour in a revolutionary new base formula that’s crystal clear, super-soft and virtually weightless.
Kat Von D TIP: Use ‘White Out’ mixer, Kat’s first-ever pure white lipstick, to mix and customise your own perfect shades.
